What did John McCain do during Vietnam?

This is a picture of the memorial the Vietnamese erected celebrating the downing of John McCain. The rumors on the Internet[s] is that capturing McCain was a major coup for the North Vietnamese and McCain collaborated with the communists while he was a POW. It should be pointed out that all these rumors are coming from right wing sources.

My question is: What the heck does the inscription say on the left side of the statue?

Here's the motherf*ckin muck on John McCain. Most of this started with two vets-Kiley and Sampley. Their candidate of choice this cycle was Duncan Hunter, but this stuff has been floating around since 1993 or so.
