Police in Branson taze kid with a broken back 19 times.

A teen fell 30 feet from a highway overpass in Ozark, Missouri last week. He landed in the shoulder of the highway below breaking his back. His parents called the police to help get their son off the highway before he was hit.

KY3.com reporting

The cops showed up and instead of helping the kid, they tazed him 19 times.

A fucking idiot explains:

"He refused to comply with the officers and so the officers had to deploy their Tasers in order to subdue him. He is making incoherent statements; he's also making statements such as, 'Shoot cops, kill cops,’ things like that. So there was cause for concern to the officers," said Ozark Police Capt. Thomas Rousset.

GOP Senator indicted on 7 counts of lying.


Good ol' Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska was indicted on 7 counts of making false statements. He made these false statements on his financial disclosure forms he's required to file every year as a senator.

Well it seems that Stevens didn't feel like 'fessing up to the numerous bribes he took from a contractor in Alaska. The contractor, VECO Corp. received Federal funding for projects all over the world including Pakistan and Russia thanks to Stevens' efforts on their behalf.

Stevens is up for reelection this year.

Sen. Stevens is the senator best known for the Bridge to Nowhere. In 2005 his fellow Republican Tom Coburn tried to strip a bill of funding for the silly project drawing Stevens' ire:

Republican Sen. Tom Coburn's amendment to rescind federal money from the Knik and Gravina bridges won him the fury of Sen. Ted Stevens and only a smattering of votes.

His attempt failed 82-15 after fist-pounding arguments from Stevens, R-Alaska.

Stevens threatened to quit, to become a "wounded bull on the floor of this Senate," and he vowed that if his colleagues passed the bill, "I will be taken out of here on a stretcher."

"I will put the Senate on notice -- and I don't kid people -- if the Senate decides to discriminate against our state, to take money only from our state, I'll resign from this body," he said. "This is not the Senate I came to. This is not the Senate I've devoted 37 years to, if one senator can decide he'll take all the money from one state to solve a problem of another."

MSNBC debunks McCain's latest attack ad

John McCain is claiming that Obama cancelled his visit with wounded troops in Landstuhl, Germany because Obama wanted a photo-op. That is, like most things Conservatives say, untrue.

The Pentagon told Obama that his showing up with a member of his campaign staff, General Gration, would be considered a political event and a violation of DoD rules.

Last week wingnuttia-that is the world of right wing wacko blogs-was all [a] titter with charges of media bias in favor of Obama and harping on the amount of coverage Obama got last week. Ironically the LATIMES published a story on sunday announcing the following:

"The Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University, where researchers have tracked network news content for two decades, found that ABC, NBC and CBS were tougher on Obama than on Republican John McCain during the first six weeks of the general-election campaign.

During the evening news, the majority of statements from reporters and anchors on all three networks are neutral, the center found. And when network news people ventured opinions in recent weeks, 28% of the statements were positive for Obama and 72% negative.

Network reporting also tilted against McCain, but far less dramatically, with 43% of the statements positive and 57% negative, according to the Washington-based media center."

Over the week end a gunman opened fire on a bunch of kids performing songs from Annie in a church with a shotgun he concealed in a guitar case. The gunman killed two adults.

The church was Unitarian Universalist-a humanist orientated church that founded their local chapter of the ACLU in Knoxville. The gunman was a conservative that lost his job and blamed the rising wave of liberalism for his problems. Dave Neiwart over at Orcinus has a great write up written from a Unitarian point of view.

Marriage, what is it good for?

So, I stumbled across this article today about the decline in black women who get married. The headline fails to note that more and more people of all races are voluntarily passing on the idea of marriage. Actually, the article makes it seem that women are just unlucky at finding that elusive "ONE". Oh those poor poor spinsters. *rolls eyes*

Why arent men just as unlucky? If less women are marrying, arent less men marrying as well? Are the men marrying each other? Only in California!

Apart from the sexist and racist undertones of this article, this is a subject that has been on my mind a lot lately: WHAT IS THE POINT OF MARRIAGE?

Sure, sure there are tax benefits. I give you that. However, I seriously doubt the tax benefits are greater than the cost of even the simplest wedding and certainly not the cost to divorce. Maybe the wedding presents balance the scales a bit but wedding presents are not a very good reason to marry a person, IMHO.

Another reason NOT to marry a person, in my opinion, is insecurity: If I marry him/her, she/he won't leave me (because a divorce is expensive)

So, considering these shoddy reasons TO marry and considering the current 51% divorce rate and considering the low number of happily married people there are in the world (I only know about 3 couples), what is a GOOD reason to marry, what are the benefits, and WHAT IS MARRIAGE GOOD FOR ANYWAY?

I just bought GRID today. Here's a nice youtube vid explaining why it is a superior game to Gran Turismo. We can play online if have a ps3.




MR BOLD adds on 7/18-

The game simulates damage really well. You are not going to continue to race if you smash your care. If you ding a front panel good enough, the car will pull to the damaged side.

The game also strikes I think a better balance between playability and realism than GT. Don't get me wrong...I'm looking forward to the full Gran Turismo 5 without this Prelude BS.

To avoid being accused of spamming, he would use at least 3 monikers and then deny it was him.

Dannybans is most likely the guy who writes the "MR EXPOSED!!!!" posts.

Dealz is smarter but like Dannybans lacks any actual integrity. When you corner Dealz he turns into a spelling nazi.

This is not a “compromise,” as some in Congress would have us believe. The only thing they compromised is your freedom.


The FISA Amendments Act allows for mass, untargeted and warrantless surveillance of all communications coming into and out of the United States. And to top it off, it hands immunity to telecom companies for their role in domestic spying. This means your phone calls can be tapped and emails read with virtually no proof of threat, and there's no chance to learn how the telecoms invaded your privacy.

It’s outrageous, unconstitutional and un-American. That’s why the ACLU is prepared to challenge this unconstitutional law the moment President Bush signs it.



In one fell swoop, Congress has not only legalized the Bush administration’s secret NSA spying program, it has given the government even more power to listen to our phone calls and read our emails than even the Bush administration illegally claimed for itself under its secret program. And, by granting telecoms immunity, it has greatly harmed the chances of ever learning the extent of the administration’s lawless actions.

Karl Rove Watch

On June 20, 2008 on C-Span, I saw Former Press Secretary Mr. Scott McClellan appear before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary (House Judiciary Committee, for short) regarding the Ms. Valerie Plame matter and his book What Happened. C-Span; Scott McClellan Mr. McClellan was asked whether Mr. Rove would tell the truth before the Committee. The Committee mentioned that they have been trying to get Mr. Rove to testify.
McClellan did not convey great confidence in the veracity of any testimony that Rove would ever give, based on his experience with Mr. Rove on the Ms. Plame matter. When he was former Press Secretary, Mr. McClellan told reporters that Mr. Rove was not involved in the exposure of CIA Operative Ms. Valerie Plame’s identity in 2003, because Mr. Rove made two confirmations of his noninvolvement to him in private. Mr. McClellan later discovered that what Mr. Rove had said to him, which McClellan then relayed to the American public media, were lies.

After watching this C-Span testimony, I had to ask myself the question, “Where is Mr. Karl Rove?” Will he testify? When? In order to answer this question, I did a search online for answers, which led me to the House Judiciary Committee’s website House Judiciary. Below is some of the history I found.

Since July 2007, after Special Counsel Mr. Patrick Fitzgerald’s investigation ended, the House Judiciary Committee has been investigating allegations of selective or politically motivated prosecution Judiciary Doc. This includes the exposure of Ms. Plame’s identity; the prosecution of Governor Siegelman; and the firings in 2006 of nine (9) U.S. Attorneys because they were not serving the Bush administration’s political goals newsletter; judiciary news. The hearings would also examine whether U.S. Attorneys were hired based on their political party affiliation and campaign contributions, instead of being hired because they were qualified for the jobs. Inviting Mr. Rove to provide testimony into these complaints was one aspect of the House Judiciary Committee’s investigation, as Mr. Rove seems to be the “missing link” in this investigation.

According to the House Judiciary Committee website and the Committee’s subpoena (source: judiciary schedule), Mr. Karl Rove is scheduled to appear before the Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law this Thursday, July 10. On March 20, 2007, the House Judiciary Committee authorized Mr. Conyers to issue subpoenas for Rove and other people (Harriet Miers, William Kelley, Scott Jennings and Kyle Sampson), and for unredacted documents the Committee has not yet received that are related to the hearing judiciary.gov. On April 17, 2008, Mr. Rove was invited to testify before the Committee. On June 16, 2008, Rove was subpoenaed to appear on July 10 for the Subcommittee meeting.

On July 1, 2008, Mr. Robert Luskin, who represents Mr. Rove, wrote to Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI) that Mr. Rove will respectfully decline to appear before the Subcommittee on July 10, “on the grounds that Executive Privilege confers upon him immunity from process in response to a subpoena directed to this subject.” Mr. Rove is willing to hold a private meeting without transcript or oath.

On July 3, 2008, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Mr. John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI) and subcommittee Chairwoman Ms. Linda Sánchez (D-CA) wrote to Mr. Luskin, that Mr. Rove’s failure to appear could result in contempt proceedings. They wrote that Mr. Rove is not immune from testifying. At the very least, he is being asked to show up at the Subcommittee meeting
(judiciary news; Conyers/Sanchez).
Will Mr. Rove ever make a public appearance before Americans? If not via C-Span tomorrow, on July 10, then he will definitely appear before a former Democratic candidate for President! On Monday, Think Progress announced that Mr. John Edwards will debate Mr. Rove at the University of Buffalo campus on September 26. (Think Progress Rove/Edwards) Maybe Mr. Rove just needs the right audience and sparring partner in order to show. Or maybe he just needs an engagement after July 31, the last day the House Judiciary will be in session. All kidding aside, the stall tactic Mr. Rove is using to keep from testifying to the House Judiciary does not work in his favor. I still get the sense that Mr. Rove is acting in an unlawful, unpatriotic manner; he has no respect for American democracy. His actions—to accept the University of Buffalo engagement and to reject the House Judiciary Committee invitation to just appear—also seem arrogant and evasive, especially in the face of a subpoena over a year old. On the other hand, I applaud the House Judiciary’s efforts towards continuation of their investigation in as professional a manner as possible. This investigation is very valuable for the American public and should garner the support of government officials under the law to continue unimpeded.

Don't be a dummy. When your smart-ass conservative friend asks you to name a bill that Obama helped write or get passed, here's a pretty big list to choose from.

I know some of you have already bookmarked this, but in case you never got around to reading it, here it is again. Feel free to share it with a friend, or send it off to that asshole relative who sent you the "ZOMG MUSLIM?!" e-mail.

Here are just a few highlights from Barack Obama's career as a US Senator: specific pieces of legislation, what they meant and how they were passed.

The Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act
Introduced by Sen. John McCain in May 2005, and cosponsored by Sen. Edward Kennedy.
Barack Obama added three amendments to this bill.

While the bill was never voted on in the Senate, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Acts of 2006 and 2007, respectively, drew heavily upon the wording of this bill.

The Lugar-Obama Cooperative Threat Reduction.
Introduced by Sen. Barack Obama, Sen. Dick Lugar and Sen. Tom Coburn.

First introduced in November 2005 and enacted in 2007, this bill expanded upon the successful Nunn-Lugar threat reduction, which helped secure weapons of mass destruction and related infrastructure in former Soviet Union states.

Lugar-Obama expanded this nonproliferation program to conventional weapons -- including shoulder-fired rockets and land mines. When the bill received $48 million in funding, Obama said, "This funding will further strengthen our ability to detect and intercept illegal shipments of weapons and materials of mass destruction, enhancing efforts to prevent nuclear terrorism."

Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006
This act of Congress, introduced by Senators Obama and Coburn, required the full disclosure of all entities or organizations receiving federal funds in FY2007.

Despite a "secret hold" on this bill by Senators Ted Stevens and Robert Byrd, the act passed into law and was signed by President Bush. The act had 43 cosponsors, including John McCain.

The act created this Web site, which provides citizens with valuable information about government-funded programs.

Democratic Republic of the Congo Relief, Security, and Democracy Promotion Act

This law helped specify US policy toward the Congo, and states that the US should work with other donor nations to increase international contributions to the African nation.

The bill marked the first federal legislation to be enacted with Obama as its primary sponsor. Following this legislation's passage, Obama toured Africa, traveling to South Africa, Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Chad. He spoke forcefully against ethnic rivalries and political corruption in Kenya.

Honest Leadership and Open Government Act
In the first month of the 110th Congress, Obama worked with Sen. Russ Feingold to pass this law, which amends and strengthens the Lobbying Disclosure Act of 1995.

Specificially, the changes made by Obama and Feingold requires public disclosure of lobbying activity and funding, places more restrictions on gifts for members of Congress and their staff, and provides for mandatory disclosure of earmarks in expenditure bills.

The House passed the bill, 411-8, on July 31. The Senate approved it, 83-14, on Aug. 2. At the time, Obama called it "the most sweeping ethics reform since Watergate."

Deceptive Practices and Voter Intimidation Prevention Act

Following the Republican-sponsored voter intimidation tactics seen in mostly black counties in Maryland during the 2006 midterm elections, Obama worked with Sen. Chuck Schumer to introduce this bill.

The bill has been referred to the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary. Obama said of the bill, "This legislation would ensure that for the first time, these incidents are fully investigated and that those found guilty are punished."

The Obama-McCain Climate Change Reduction Bill

The Obama-McCain bill, which is co-sponsored by Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., would cut emissions by two-thirds by 2050.

Iraq War De-Escalation Act of 2007

Introduced by Obama, this binding act would stop the planned troop increase of 21,500 in Iraq, and would also begin a phased redeployment of troops from Iraq with the goal of removing all combat forces by March 31, 2008.

Explaining the bill, Obama said it reflects his view that the problems in Iraq do not have a military solution. "Our troops have performed brilliantly in Iraq, but no amount of American soldiers can solve the political differences at the heart of somebody else's civil war," Obama said.

Amendments to the 2008 Defense Authorization Bill

Obama worked with Sen. Kit Bond to limit, through this bill, the Pentagon’s use of personality disorder discharges in the FY 2008 Defense Authorization bill.

This provision would add additional safeguards to discharge procedures and require a thorough review by the Government Accountability Office. This followed news reports that the Pentagon inappropriately used these procedures to discharge service members with service-connected psychological injuries.

"With thousands of American service members suffering day in and day out from the less visible wounds of war, reports that the Pentagon has improperly diagnosed and discharged service members with personality disorders are deeply disturbing," said Senator Obama. "This provision will add additional safeguards to the Department of Defense’s use of this discharge and mandate a comprehensive review of these policies."

The Comprehensive Nuclear Threat Reduction provision

Working with Sen. Hagel and Rep. Adam Schiff, Obama authored this provision, which would require the president to develop a comprehensive plan for ensuring that all nuclear weapons and weapons-usable material at vulnerable sites around the world are secure by 2012 from the threats that terrorists have shown they can pose.

A provision from the Obama-Hagel bill was passed by Congress in December 2007 as an amendment to the State-Foreign Operations appropriations bill.

"It is imperative that we build and sustain a truly global effort under an aggressive timeline to secure, consolidate, and reduce stockpiles of nuclear weapons and weapons-usable material to keep them out of the wrong hands. The comprehensive nuclear threat reduction plan required by this provision is an important step in that effort," Obama said of the provision.

These are just a selection of the bills that Obama has introduced and co-sponsored. You owe it to yourself to be able to cite a few of these off the top of your heads so you can give people the gist of them when they challenge the Senator's accomplishments.

At the end of the day, I will take Obama's good judgment over McCain's longevity in Washington any day of the week. It's more important for a politician to learn from his or her mistakes than it is for them to present the same old failed ideas over and over and expecting a better result.

It's true Obama is a relative newcomer on the politican scene, but he has already accomplished much in the areas of nuclear non-proliferation, government accountability, environmental responsibility and others.

So get out there and let some people know what our guy is capable of. Don't be caught unaware when someone asks you for your candidate's resume!

Bonne fête Quebec! 400 years old today!

Québec was founded by Samuel de Champlain on 3 July 1608 at the site of a long abandoned St. Lawrence Iroquoian settlement called Stadacona. It was to this settlement that the name "Canada" refers. Although called the cradle of the Francophone population in North America, the Acadian settlement at Port-Royal antedates it. The place seemed favourable to the establishment of a permanent colony.

McCain's temper gets the better of him:

McCain became visibly angry when I asked him to explain how his Vietnam experience prepared him for the Presidency.

"Please," he said, recoiling back in his seat in distaste at the very question.

McCain allies Sen. Lindsey Graham stepped in to rescue him. Graham expressed admiration for McCain’s stance on the treatment of detainees in US custody.

Why? Well he doesn't say. I can only imagine that Wesley Clark said something horrible like being a POW doesn't exactly qualify someone has having foreign policy experience. McCain fakes outrage and Webb tells him to cool it. How does GatewayPutz take it?

Obama & faith based initiatives

Mr Bold, what is this crap about Obama backing Gdubs faith based initiatives? I will vote for McCain if he keeps this up.

Here's what Obama said:

The new partnership will not endanger the separation of church and state, so long as a few basic principles are followed. First, if an organization gets a federal grant, it will not be permitted to use that grant money to proselytize to the people it serves, and the group will forbidden to discriminate against them on the basis of their religion. And groups will be required to comply with federal anti-discrimination laws in their hiring practices—including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.

Second, federal dollars that go directly to churches, temples, and mosques will only be allowed to go toward secular programs. And Obama will ensure that taxpayer dollars only go to those programs that actually work.

As long as they're not proselytizing I don't see the problem here. There are people who are willing to volunteer and this initiative puts some Federal money behind it so they can get the supplies they need.

And don't joke about voting for McNasty S. City. That guy wants to take away your right to choose what happens in your womb and who you can marry-even taking away partnership rights and benefits. Obama is clearly the better the candidate for women.
